WHO WE ARE
We are a member chapter of the California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT) which is the California affiliate of Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) which was founded in 1876.
OUR PURPOSE
The primary purpose of this corporation is to raise the standards of music education and to promote the art of music throughout the state by means of educational activities, which will heighten awareness and understanding of the art of music by students, teachers and the general public, including State conventions, District conferences, master classes, workshops, students evaluations and competitions, newsletter and scholarship opportunities.
MEETINGS
Meetings are held throughout the school year. There is usually a short business meeting followed by a program such as speakers, clinicians, performances, master classes, etc.
WORKSHOPS
Workshops are occasionally organized as part of community education and outreach.
STATE CONFERENCE
California Assocation of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT) holds a yearly conference in California, alternating northern California with southern California. The conference features outstanding collaborative performances. Concerto finals, contemporary festivals, and honors finals take place during this conference. Teacher sessions include ways to encourage teachers to grow, composition, leadership skills, and various other workshops.
NATIONAL CONFERENCE
Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) holds a yearly conference in different cities throughout the United States. Conference attendees have the opportunity to network with colleagues from around the globe, experience sessions by internationally known pedagogues, and performances by accomplished artists.
HOW TO APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP
To become a member of the Central Coast Music Teachers Association, a teacher or college aged student needs to join MTNA (www.mtna.org). National, State, and Chapter dues may all be paid online.Once national and state dues are paid, there is the opportunity to join the local chapter.
