Betty Hansen
Piano Lessons
Betty Hansen’s professional training includes a B.S. in Education with music major, a Master of Education, and a B. of Music in organ performance. She also has been trained and certified in all levels of Musicgarten early childhood music education.
Betty taught classroom music for the Orcutt Union Public Schools for thirteen years, while maintaining her private piano studio, which she continues to enjoy. She is experienced in teaching all ages of students, since her Musicgarten emphasis within the business she owned with her daughter, Childsong Studios, was early keyboard teaching.
As a long time member of the National Music Teachers Association (MTNA) and its state and local affiliates, many of her students regularly participate in adjudicated Auditions (performance) and Evaluations (comprehensive music exams) as well as studio recitals.
She has served as the chair of the Santa Barbara Arts Commission, on the Board of Directors at the Santa Maria Arts Council, and the Santa Maria Orchestra. She has served on the State Board of the California Professional Music Teachers Association (CAPMT) as Evaluations Chair, and as the Secretary and President of the Central Coast Music Teachers. She has also held the position of Dean (chair) of the Central Coast Guild of Organists.
A church organist, pianist and choir director for many years, she still enjoys playing and accompanying and was the high school choir accompanist for the Orcutt Academy in 2010-11.
“Two of the things I enjoy most in life are music and children—my studio gives me the opportunity to find joy in both.”
